Hi all,
New here, great place. A few years back I was looking at doing a FOWLR tank, but things came up that made it not the best idea right then. I'm just starting research again and this time I'm for sure doing it, but thinking I'll do a Reef Tank (don't know how full blown yet, still reading). Back then I picked up the book Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Robert M. Fenner, which has tons of great info in it. I also have a few older books (one from the 80's & one from 1991) that I picked up back then for a couple bucks a piece.
Today I stopped by a couple LFS's to see what they had & while I was there I picked up a few books that looked really good (hopefully they are
).
The New Marine Aquarium by Michael S. Paletta
Aquarium Corals: Selection, Husbandry & Natural History by Eric H. Borneman
Natural Reef Aquariums by John H. Tullock
and the first three issues of Coral Magazine.
How's this for a start? Any other books that would be considered a must have?
Just a couple more things.
How is it buying livestock & LR/LS on the internet? I ask because while I like to support local businesses (even though it was impossible to get help @ the LFS's I went to) I couldn't believe what they wanted for their fish. Maybe I'm wrong, but $40 for a small Perc. Clown ($30 at the other shop) and $30 for a small Yellow Tang (on sale for $21 at the other) seems awfully high when compared to someplace like eTropicals. LR was $10+ per lb. & a Powder Blue Tang (maybe 3 1/2") was over $100. Maybe I'm wrong & that's a good price?
Also, I'm a long way off before considering livestock, but the following interest me right now. Any comments on them? (I haven't really researched them a lot yet).
Purple Firefish
Pink Square Anthias
Maroon Clown (Gold Striped)
Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse or Greenback Fairy Wrasse
Tank will probably be a 90 or a little smaller.
Thanks,
Brian
