I've recently set up a new 50g tank. Not finished yet so I haven't posted any pictures - will do soon! It's cycled for the past three weeks so i've been out today to my LFS and bought some more fish, so so far I have the following:

5 Red tail black sharks,
2 Oscars,
6 Corydoras Jullii,
20 Neons
5 Angel fish
8 shrimps and 1 albino frog!

I checked with the guy in the store to see if they could all be put together in a 50g tank and he said the sharks grow quite big but they should be fine. I wanted to just finish off the tank with a few h.rasbora, do you think this will over fill it?

Thanks.

thats what i was thinking, but not just the neons the oscars will have the lot for sunday lunch.

can't believe that lfs said that tank would be ok.

Advise newfishboy, take back everything apart from the neons and cories. then get some nice livebearers like swordtails and platies, they are easy to look after and wont eat everything

I have to agree, there's just not enough room in there to keep 5 angels and 2 oscars, and they'll eat the others as they grow. There will also probably be more than a few fights between the oscars and angels; they're cichlids, they're territorial, and there's not enough room in a 50g for them to establish areas of their own.
Once again, LFS employees have misguided someone who was consciencious enough to ask for their help. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Aren't you supposed to keep one shark by himself, or else they will pretty much kill each other since they cannot tolerate their own species. Maybe you could just keep the angels by themselves, with only one shark, or you could do the things already posted, but the oscars can definitely not stay in there with the other fish.

Yeah, I think you should go back and give that employee an earful.

5 Red tail black sharks,

these will either kill eachother, or one will kill all the others. They are very territorial.

2 Oscars,

Basically, they'll eat everything else in the tank and grow up to be longer than the tank is front to back, they'll even have trouble turning around.

6 Corydoras Jullii,

will be eaten by the oscars, but wo'nt hurt anybody.

20 Neons

will get eaten by oscars OR angelfish.

5 Angel fish

will eat the neons, but probably get eaten by the oscars first.

8 shrimps and 1 albino frog!

...those will get along fine with everybody but the oscars. the oscars would eat them.

So basically, I'd choose whether you like angels or neons better, then take everything back except those, the shrimps, the frog, and the cory's. Sorry to hear about this. I've heard of LFS employees misguiding people, but this is absolutely ridiculous. Definitely go back and have a talk with both the employee and the manager. If there's another LFS nearby, I would stop doing business with them and be sure to let the manager know your reasons. It might get something done about it.

cichlids

Yuo should explore the dwarf cichlid neighbor hood, you may find them interesting. Rephrase, you WILL find them interesting.
