If any of you are wanting to make a moon light for your tank, this place is awesome: www.LSDiodes.com great prices. RatShack wants $3 for a 3900mcd blue LED. They want $0.45 for a 5900mcd blue LED. etc, etc. lots of cool stuff. Twice as many blue LEDs as reds, along with some UV leds, might make a cool looking moon light. for only a few bucks too.

I installed 4 5mm White LED's and 2 10mm White LED's in my ten gallons' hood. The only problem I have with it is that If your gravel is a dark color (mine is black) you cant see much light. I also have trouble with getting the 10mm LED's to spread their light evenly. Even through a plastic shade it still stays in the beam.

What works good is to roughen the surface of the LED with very fine sandpaper. HTH

I'm gonna have to disagree... high prices for an inferior product from what I looked at. They do have a bigger selection of specialty items, but charge 6 times as much, so it balances out I guess.

what are you trying to do with light wayne? people have used black lights for tanks. i use my leds for spot lighting and for an aquarium nightlight.

I thought you couldn't see UV.. ?

quick questions- how much work/how difficult is it to rig blue LEDs in your hood for a moonlight? What materials are involved? Does it bother the fish? I always wanted to put low power lighting in the tank to keep it dimly lit during the night, but wasn't sure if it would be safe for the tank.

I'm kinda paranoid about DIY electronics around water- especially since my fish are jumpers. There's fish-shaped prints on the piece of plastic that shields my lights.
