I am creating a mid to heavily planted 30 gal tank. I have been told there is no need for an air pump for aeration. I was wondering if it isn't needed would it hurt to have one, or do I need one?
Hello again
You don't want to drive the CO2 out of the tank, the plants need it to thrive. If you're going for heavily planted, I'd recommend that you not use a source of aeration and try to keep the surface agitation to a minimum.
You can also post to the planted tanks section and find out more about CO2, they'll know more over there.
you may want to rename the subject when its about airation.
But using the air stone in your tank may hinder the plant growth. I have a planted tank and have found a few things out that may help you.
1 lighting is a big important thing.
2 CO2 is the biggest limiting factor, especially in heavily planted tanks, many people add CO2 to the water either as flourish liquid or as a gas with a cylinder.
3 soil type can be a big factor to the plant types you keep.
