Here's some pics of what the nearby area looked like. These are from south Orlando. I know many others had damage much worse, and some lost their lives with many still missing...

Thought I'd re-post on this thread too...
>"what did you do during your time off of AC?"

Here in Orlando, we survived the worst storm - hurricane, we have ever been through.... They said sustained winds here were at 105mph. The nearby ariport clocked the winds at 108mph.

Luckily there wasn't major damage to the house except for many shingles missing on the south side of the roof. When Charley hit that Friday the 13th night, it was a scary sound of what we thought was our roof coming off the house! I never want to hear that again! All the fencing in our backyard needs replacing. We were lucky to be without power for only around 12 or 14 hours. Many here are still without power. It was incredible to see all the damage Saturday morning. So many trees were knocked down - debris all over the place. There was a trampoline near the road, traffic lights were completely ripped off the lines.. Many trees blocked roadways. Last night, Sunday night, we had a "curfew" from dusk until dawn. No one was to be out on the roads last night, or subject to arrest.

Strange how Tampa was evacuated and no real warnings about Orlando. The hurricane went straight through here. Of course Disney was open the very next morning (Saturday, or was it Sunday?)... I'm sure that made many underpaid Disney workers filled with joy... "Get to work, your damage to your homes can wait...!"

Weather reports mentioned many tornadoes were with the hurricane. I'm so glad we didn't get one of those on top of the 100+mph winds!

Ok, no more hurricanes for me! ...............
Nice to see the website it up again!!

That sux bro. Glad to know your alright.

I was on the waters in South padre about the time it hit. It's a long ways away from Florida, but the waters were still rough, and I think that was because of the storms in the gulf.

Joe,
Glad to hear that you and your family alright. We were kind of nervous up here for a while. For the longest time they were predicting it to go through J'ville, but instead it turned toward Orlando and Daytona. Anyways, I hope everything turns out good for you in the end.

Dave

Sorry to see the damage done to your house and immediate area - but I think you'd gladly take that over one of you being hurt!! Glad you're okay and I hope things can get back to normal soon...

Thanks all...

My dad lives in Daytona Beach, and works for the Makai Beach Lodge in Ormond Beach. Tons of the employees had to go back to their homes on the West Coast of FL to batton down the hatches, so my dad ended up covering wherever they needed help (he usually does payroll).

Anyway, he was at the hotel the entire duration of Charlie and said it was very frightening. I'm just glad he moved from Naples 5 years ago, as that side was much harder hit.

He said that a small tornado touched down on the hotel and a bunch of windows shattered, but luckily nobody was injured. When he got home, his apartment windows were all in tact, and for the most part the complex was fine, just cosmetic damage (trees down, tennis net and bball hoops broken because of a tree down, and some shingles gone).

All in all, this was a very frightening storm, and though I'm very sad for those who lost their lives and are still missing, it could have been much, much worse, and I'm glad for the most part everyone is (physically) OK.

I'm glad you are ok Joe!

H. Charley was a nasty one for sure. In 1992, I was part of a team that helped install / repair / replace communications for all the disaster relief teams that came down after Andrew. I was at Homestead AFB about 4 days after the storm, and man - it looked like Hiroshima. Pix I've seen on tv from the Punta Gorda area look alot like that. My oldest daughter lives in Lakeland, and they were hit pretty good as well. Glad all the AC friends we've heard from so far have been ok.

Has anyone seen Guy W since the hurricane? I believe he lives in the Naples area. I hope he and his family endured the storm and are alright.

Hey there, made it through the storm just fine. Aside from 80 to 90 MPH winds and rain Naples was pretty much un-harmed. If I had lived some 50 miles or so north there would have been bigger problems, but as it stands we just had a scary ride.

Thanks for thinking of me, and glad you pulled though alright Joe.
