We recently lost our Honey Gourami in our 20 gallon tank and my father is looking to replace him with something different. Right now the tank has 3 rummy nose tetras, 2 silver tips tetras, 1 head and tail light tetra (reminants of larger schools), one fly fox (or could be a false SAE) and 1 chocolate gourami. We need something that will work well as a single of its kind, not fight with the others, likes plants (not to eat), and gets no bigger than 4 inches. I was thinkign a single male sword would do well, but are they okay to keep by themselves? Any other suggestions?

Sounds like you have nothing on the bottom part of the tank. How about adding 3 corydoras or a rapheal catfish or a bristle nose pleco. If you don't like bottom dwellers how about 2 or 3 dwarf neon rainbows, they are really pretty and interesting to watch only get 11/2 inch long. When mature they shimmer a torquise to blue color with reddish fins.

How about an upside down catfish? I like the suggestion of a small school of cories too! What about a really fancy betta (though I don't know anything about the fly fox, maybe they don't go well w/ bettas?).

Actually the fox rules the bottom of the tank. nd I am not loking for a school but hoepfully a colourful single fish about the size of a gourami.

What about a powder blue dwarf gourami?
