Anyone know a way to set up a timer for the lighting in my tank?

I sometimes forget to turn it off at night, and I am sure the critters in my tank dont like that.

I am sure there is a product I can buy that I can set it to turn the lights on and off at specific times. My budget is slim. My finance department (aka wife) thinks I have spent to much as it is. :D

You can pic up a timer at you local Home Depot/ Lowes or just about any department store for about $10. That's what I have on all my lights and some places that don't have a tank.......Yet!!

if you didn't get one already, get the kind with the buttons that you push down to set the on/off times, not the kind with the little red and green tabs you move around. You WILL eventually lose the tabs.

The electronic type also interfere with some ballasts. The mechanical kind with buttons you press in or pull out are best.

Personally I've never lost a tab - in fact I have a jar of spares, as they commonly come equipped for more than one on/off per 24 hours, and I never do that.

My electronics (X-10) do not lose track of time with power outages. I suppose that would vary with the system chosen.

I've picked up two $5 timers from Home Depot with the red and green tabs you position on the dial. They were in every single checkout aisle, but I'm sure all the stores are different. I do agree that I hope I never lose the tabs, because then I'll be posting a thread titled "DIY Timer Tab HELP".
