Hi

At what stage should i add live rock to my tank and how much is recomended

My tank has been cycling for a week now and over the last couple of days has got a brown growth happening on the crushed coral base

The tank is a 40g tank, all my levels are ok at the moment but i dont think that they have spiked yet

i have a protein skimmer and a two strip light with a actinic 420 25w tube and a power glo 18000k 30w tube.

thanks in advance

most people say to put in somewhere between 1-2 pounds of rock per gallon.
alot of rock you get isnt fully cured, and alot of people use live rock to cycle their tank. if you get the basic live rock its fine to use to cure your tank with. but dont pay the extra cash for rock with lots of stuff growing on it yet. IME, alot of it dies off and its wasted money.

How are you cycling the tank?

This may be an excellent time to do it. If you add uncured or partially cured rock to the tank, the die-off will send the tank through another cycle anyway.

Can anyone suggest a good source for curing instructions? I've read the section in Paletta's "New Marine Aquarium," which makes it sound relatively doable, but Fenner's book makes it sound like unless I'm experienced, everything's going to die....
