ok so i did a no no and bought something without researching it. it was a giant cup coral and i got it real cheap when i went to a store that was a good 2 1/2 hour drive away. i have since learned that they can eat fish. the one i bought is about 10 inches in diameter. my question is has anyone had them? how prone to fish eating are they? my woman really likes it and i dont want to get rid of it unless its a must. i have read that if you feen brine shrimp that they will leave stuff alone. just wondering if anyone has had any luck good or bad with them.
 
how big is yours, what and how often do you feed it, if any? mine seems to have opened up a little more and now it looks like its a good foot across.
 
Well, here's my take, FWIW.

According to both Borneman and Sprung&Delbeek they are notorious fish eaters. They will even lure clowns to their demise. So it's a risk. It's true that some people can get away with keeping them, but that may be pure luck.

Ray Pollett had an interesting take on the issue of feeding them. While it is true that elephant ears will eat meaty foods, that may just fuel growth which makes them able to eat bigger fish.

It may never cause trouble, but you may not want to get attached to any of your fish for a while.
 
well i might just call inland aquatics tommorrow and see if i might be able to trade it in on something else. we cant have poor little toby the green banded goby getting chowed by the coral now can we. i hope i can trade it for something!
