can real sea shells go into a cichlid tank?

I found a conch shell at the beach a couple of weeks ago. i was wondering if i could put it into my african cichlid tank?

I see no problems with adding shells to an african cichlid tank.

boil it to make sure there is nothing harmfull on or in it.

I have a pile of broken conch shells with my Tanganyikans. Works fine.
