The two LFS near me have had an outbreak of ick in there tanks which more or less are all connected to eachother. Although I am not quite ready to go buy fish yet because the tank is cycling still. They suggest that anyfish comming from them be quarentined. So I read up on what i needed for a quarentine tank; tank, filter, some pvc pipe for hiding and such. What I am not clear on is weather or not it needs to be cycled? I read a couple things saying the Qtank should only be run for about 6 weeks and then clean and redone. If that is the case I hope you can get around cycling somehow. Thanks for the help in advance.

If you have some established filter media to use in a quarantine tank that is great. Or a sponge filter kept running in a tank somewhere can be called into action easily.

If not frequent water changes are the ticket.

Quarantine is a time for frequent feedings and close observation, so daily vacuuming and a change of some water at least every other day is wise.
You are wanting to keep the fish in as perfectly clean water as possible just to help its general health as well as accustom it to you and your methods of working so frequent changes are helpful on many fronts.
