measuring ammonia in fishless cycle...how long to wait to measure after dosing?

hey now all,

I just put in a capful of ammonia in my 38 gallon and I am wondering how long I need to wait to test the ammonia level present. I know I need to reach 5ppm. Can I test right away? Or do I need to let the ammonia spread throughout the tank?

ammonia diffuses VERY rapidly, so with your filters running a half hour should be plenty of time. that might even be overkill.

1/2 hour would be overkill, as said. the time it took to type the thread was more tan needed.
