I just set up a 10g tank to quarantine new fish, and I'm wondering how long those of you who quarantine like to keep your new additions in the QT before putting them into your display tanks?
Does anyone recommend adding anything (salt, MelaFix etc.) to the tank or elevating the temperature during quarantine, or do you just keep them in conditions similar to those in the display tank and watch them for signs of illness?
The tank is a 10g with a small Fluval internal filter that I moved from my 45g, so it won't have to go through a cycle (I'm using fish food to keep the bacteria alive and I've been testing the NH3 (0), NO2 (0) and NO3 (~5), a 50w heater, a black background, a slate cave, no substrate and no light (the room light keeps the tank pretty bright during the day). Should there be more decoration? I wanted to keep the tank as bare as possible for easy cleaning, but I don't want the fish to be stressed.
Thanks for your help.

4 weeks of health--that means if they get sick for a week, 4 days from the last sign of visible ailment. Unless it is a fish that I expect to have something (puffers, wild caught fish, clown loaches, dwarf gouramies, etc) I don't treat with anything.Another thing to watch for is eating--quarantine is the best time to determine if the fish is an active feeder, and what it will readily take.

Minimum decoration is best. I use PVC and fake plants, often floating--easy to clean and easy to remove, but provides enough cover at different levels of the tank.

I do a month as well. I don't treat with anything unless I have to and I put a very then layer of gravel on the bottom becasue my quarantine tank sits on a white table and the fish seem more comfortable. I keep the conditions as close to the tank they are going in as I can. PVC works nice or any easily moved cheap decorations.

Another good thing about waiting a month is it helps me stay out of the LFS.
