I have had one small clump of Java Fern in my five gallon aquarium for around a month now, and have noticed that most of the leaves (save two) on the plant have small brown spots covering them as well as tiny brown "fuzzies" on the edges of the leaves. I am assuming this isn't a good sign, but I am not sure what is causing it. The tank as at least 3 wpg, and I use Flourish Excel daily, so I am stumped as to what the problem is. Any ideas?

Here's a photo.

Tank params are as follows:

Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: 15ppm
pH: 7.6
kH: 3 dkh
gH: 125.3

Java leaves typically get spotty, and the brown fuzzy's could well be new plants starting to grow off of the leaves. It's really hard to tell from the picture, but I don't see anything that looks abnormal to me for java fern. This plant has a lot of "character" It could be algea as well, but my Java fern does not seem prone to algea growth at all.

Daveedka is absolutely right. Odds are the brown spots are little plantlets growing off the leaves. When they get big enough, you can pluck them right off and start new plants. I would agree that nothing looks out of the ordinary. In fact, your plants look very healthy!

Give the plants another week and you'll start to see discernible leaves on them. Mine have been growing daughter plants for about a month now, and they're getting HUGE! It'll probably be about 2 more weeks until it's time for me to pull that leaf down and take the daugter plants off of it.
