brown algae problem

The brown algae should be a temporary thing. I got a lot in the beginning, my tank is about 6 months now and there hasn't been any for a couple of months. However, it didn't go away until I added my snails. They ate all the brown algae and it never came back! It did take a couple weeks for the snails to eat all of it. Also, the snails weren't added until there was no ammonia, nitrites, or nitrates (I don't know how far you are into your set-up.)

My tank is 45 gallons with 15+ cerith snails, 1 Mexican Turbo snail, and 5-ish nassarius snails. My cerith's have been breeding and there are a few babies, but we started with 15. The Turbo snails does the most work and chomps right through the algae. Astria snails are another good choice and I hope to get some of those, since I think I lost half of my nassarius snails (I started with 10.)
