i have an empty 55g tank im planning to stock with a lionfish and a green wolf eel. id also like to have some live rock to provide hiding spaces for my lion and eel but i need some advice on what kind of filtration to use. origionally i was going to use a penguin 330 with a bio wheel and an in-tank protien skimmer. would that be sufficiant? or what about just a wet/dry trickle filter with a built in protien skimmer? i have another succesfull 55g with a wet/dry but it was a lot of money. so im looking for alternatives. thanx for any help

If you are going that route, one regular here recommends 2 emperor 400 biowheels for a 55 gallon. He says it works for him without a skimmer, but you must clean the media (in water taken from the tank) weekly.

Most around here just use live rock for filtration.

awsome. so i can have my lion and eel and just use the live rock as a filter?how would i go about doing that? would i ONLY have to use live rock? or would i still have to use some kind of a power filter and skimmer? thanks for the reply.
