For a while, I've been considering getting a Peacock Mantis Shrimp. Lots of people say they're bad, blah, blah, blah. But, after being a member of grimreefers.com for a while, I decided I wanted one.

About 3 weeks ago, I found a LFS that had a 5 incher for $35.

Well, I just happened to stop in, today, and they had the same mantis...3 weeks later. I asked a simple question about him and the guy was like..."You know, no one wants it! I'll give it to you for $20, if you want it."

So, I am now a proud papa of a 5" Peacock.

He's gorgeous! I had a spare 10gal. tank sitting around...I'm using that. I bought black sand, and a few more small pieces of live rock. I'm using live rock and water from my 200gal. system, so it should be just fine.

Here's a pic of one. As soon as I get a good digital camera, I'll have pics of my own.

Congratulations, your mantis is beautiful.

It's amazing, but I have almost the same set-up for my mantis tank. I haven't caught it yet, but there is a small mantis shrimp in my tank and I set up a 10 gal with black sand and LR for when we catch the guy! What a coincidence!

Well, maybe we should set up a mantis sub-forum. I have three right now, two in the fuge and one still in the main tank. I have already given one away, will get rid of another soon, and will set the other two up in an extra 10 gallon. They will either become a pair or one will become food, I guess.

good idea about the mantis forum.. im looking into getting one soon. every time i go to my favorite fish store i hear this loud poping noise and there in about 5 little tanks are all these mantis shrimp.

Wow it is really a beautiful pet. Very nice colors. Is $35 a good/average price for one? I have been thinking about keeping an eye out for one when I get another tank for one, but never saw one for sale so I have no idea what one would cost. Very nice though, very pretty :-D
