I'm thinking of putting the fishes in a small container. Put all the water in a cooler to save. Boil a lot of water and put it in the aquarium to kill the Hydra. Remove that water and put back the normal water, then the fishes once the temp. is in its original temperature. Any thoughts on this?

Also, a few questions about this. Am I right when I think that boiling the water will also remove the flourine(that's what we have on our tap water I believe) and chlourine. Also, how will my tank do with a 20 gallon water being 40C degrees? Will it break, obtain some leak? Thanks in advance.

If you keep the original water, you'll probably still have hydra. if you're really serious about killing them, I'd either let the tank totally dry then fill it with fresh water, or add a chemical to kill the hydra. in my opinion and experience, mixing boiling water and glass is asking for trouble.

Yes. I had doubts thats why i asked questions. Thanks all.

Any suggestion on what kind of chemicals? I bet it's toxic to fishes so I wont do it, unless they're not so someone tell me please :) Also. If I was to totally dry it, what should I do with the fishes? I'm in my 2-3rd week of cycle. Should I just give the 8 white clouds away and restart my cycle after i dry the tank off(kill the hydra)?

HYDRA !This usually appears after over feeding but that is not always the case. Go to you LFS and get some "Fluke Tabs"; 1/2 tablet for every 10 gallons. Just one crushed tablet for your tank if it's a 20. Crush it very fine then mix with a small cup of tank water and just dump it in. I use it with tiny fry and it never bothers any fish. Hydra should be all gone in less than an hour.

Try bleach

I would suggest emptying the tank and rinse everything with a solution of bleach. Rinse with new water, fill with water and dechlorinator, maybe rinse a few more times... That should get rid of em.

tenlientl, Where did you find information on hydra? I have been following your posts as this is a new scourge to me and I am quite interested in more info. I ran a google on Hydra and got everything except aquarium life. Jst curious who has what info.
