Over the past month I have been slowly stocking my fully cycled 46g tank. So far, 5 lemon tetras, 3 otos, 2 smallish corys, a 3-spot gourami, and over the weekend I added 2 small (~ size of a quarter) angels and a smallish bristlenose pleco (~2inches). One angel immediately took to schooling with the lemons (a bit odd, but not exactly alarming) and was active and eating.

For the first 1-2 days the other angel pretty much hung out on his own and was not terribly interested in food. During the same period, the pleco mostly hid in a pot and was not very active. On day 3, I witnessed the pleco 'tip over' and lay for a moment before righting himself. The angel hung near the top behind the filter discharge, staring upwards. Despite my pleas - "don't go into the light!" - both had met their maker within hours, and received burial at sea with full honors :sad

All other fish seem happy and healthy 2 days following the loss of fish :)

I followed the recommended aclimation procedures, and have provided appropriate foods (flake, pellet, and algae tabs). I am keeping on top of water changes (~30% every 10 days), and all water parameters are excellent. As far as I can tell, this loss was related to unhealthy fish or fish-store stress. However, the fact that 2 very different fish from different tanks at the LFS suffered the same fate within hours is troubling.

I realize that it will be impossible to perform a post-mortem based upon the little information I have provided, but I would like to know how common this type of situation is, and if there is anything that might be done to minimize such a loss upon introduction of new fish?

Thanks for all of the excellent advice.

yeah it want to see how its lunch will look before it eats it :D

I would do 30-50% water changes every week.

I'm sorry for your loss and it was most likely from bad stock. How did you aclimate them to the tank? What are your water parameters?
