My ehiem 2026 is leaking...

Hey everybody. It's been ages since I have been here.
I have a huge problem. I cleaned my filter like I usually do, but when I put it all back together and hooked it up I could hear air hissing out of it. So I tooke the filter head off, cleaned the gasket, put it back on and tried again. It is leaking between the filter head and the filter tank. Any ideas? I have been working on it for about 2 hours and am getting very frustrated.

Did you put a little vaseline on the gasket before putting the top back on. Sometimes the gasket won't seat properly if it's dry.

Yes. I did that too. I am at a total loss as to what to try now.

Im going out on a limb here....... but maybe a new gasket?
Sorry I just could'nt help myself.
If its a o'ring they do wear out over time.

How old is your filter. 2220 doesn't ring a bell with the models on the market today

Yeah, I know. I am getting ready to order a new one and a new impeller too. The little rubber ends are coming off. Now I have to find filtration to do the job until I can get my new gasket. Plus I am going to have a loss of my bacterial colonies.

I used to think that as well, but Eheim actually recommends using vasoline.

eheim sells their own lubricant called the eheim vaseline which is silicone-based. they mentioned vaseline and most likely implied their own product. hmm, sounds misleading.

petroleum-based vaseline can really wear down rubber seals.

Sorry not 2220, but 2026. I was very frustrated at the time. I have ordered two new O rings. Now I have my HOT Magnum running (not enough filtration, but it will do for a few days).
To the best of my memory, my 2026 is almost 4 years old. So I guess it is time for a new o ring.

Thanks for your help. I probably just needed to vent. And I was using eheim's vaseline.
