i have a small angel probably 2 inches across
and i had a violet goby, i had to move the goby from another tank because my monos were picking on him, the day after i moved him with the angel i woke up and the goby was thrashing about his eyeballs completely gone and he died hours later, it was very disturbing, is this common?

That's the usual mode of attack when cichlids decide to kill a tankmate. Surprises me with such small angels. What size tank? BTW, did you have any problems getting your violet goby to eat?

it was a 55 gal tank and there was also 2 gouramis in there and some loaches and corys, i also had a male betta who was killed by the angel i am sure, all of his tail and fins were eaten off, anyway the goby was a great fish and i fed him brine shrimp and blood worms(frozen) by hand, i put them in a medicine syringe and put it up to his face and squeezed and he ate it right up
seeing him die without his eyes was BAD

That sounds horrible. I'm sorry.

that sounds like one nasty, nasty little angelfish. when my angels (2) were that size, they got along well with my plecostomus and 5 tetras. they even got along with each other most of the time, at least no life threatening fights, until they were bigger. when they got older they fought with each other but left all the other fish alone. i even added some small (1 inch) tetras when my angelfish was about 4 inches, and he leaves them alone. just goes to show all fish have their own personality, even among the same species.
