A couple of weeks ago, I got a Paradise Fish. We never, ever get them around here...until a month or so ago, Petco had 3. They looked awful, but I was tempted. I resisted. Then, the next week or so, PetQuarters had a whole tank full of beautiful ones. I finally got one. He went into quarantine right away, as usual, but I already think he's such a cool fish!:)

He's so gosh darn cute. He was doing the funniest things this morning. I was standing at the tank watching him as he ate. Then, 5 minutes into it, he *finally* realized I was there. I can't even describe it LOL. He freaked out, charged about an inch toward the glass. Halted to a dead stop. Was waggling his fins about wildly. Charged another inch forward and stopped. He did that all the way to the front of the glass where he smooshed his face against it and was looking at me all funny. Ahh, he's cute.

Ok, I just wanted to share.

:D

i love linda perry (my pfish) bestest of all my fishes. it's a shame i had to leave her at home :(.

I had a couple of those fish, but unfortunatly they were too mean for the tank and I had to move them out.

Thanks guys:D He is a beauty. When he gets all uppity at something and flares, his colors darken to the most vibrant hues.

Captain - In that picture, he's just eating some flakes, but he gets the usual daphnia, frozen bloodworms, betta bites, mysis shrimp, etc. All the good stuff:D That fish can EAT, I tell ya!

LOL Aquarius. Um yah...the check's (ahem) in the mail;) Too bad you had to leaver her at home though:(

Dashark - It may be because you had more than one...also, like other anabantoids, a lot of their personality is the dependant on the individual specimen. Perhaps you had a bit of bad luck....

Hey, out of sudden curiosity... How big are Paradise fish? What's the minimum tank size?

A solitary one can go in most any size tank (be careful with tankmates), for a pair, I'd reccomend at least a 20 gallon. They get to be up to 4" from what I hear. Mine are about 2.25" and still growing. I love them- so much character for a small fish.

I feed mine betta bits, spirulina algae flakes, and frozen treats on occasion, and they are happy, healthy little delinquents. They're so much fun to watch. I even talked a friend into getting one- and her mom loves the fish so much, she won't let her take it back to college with her... So now it's her mom's fish.

One time when I was feeding some algae to the gourami tank, some got stuck on my fingers, and one of the gouramis actually jumped up and nabbed the algae from the tip of my fingers. Cant' reccomend these guys enough. They're so active, personable, curious, and entertaining. It's hard not to love these guys (unless they're terrorizing your tank... these guys have a bad reputation for that).

I love the way their colours change in intensity with their mood- they are simply amazing. The bright blue and orange are spectacular, especially when they flare their fins... That's an amazing pic of your Blue Paradise!

I kept my pfish in a 5.5 heavily planted (you have fish in there?!?!?!) gallon with three julii cories and a dwarf frog. Everyone was happy for months until the tank cracked. And then I got a replacement and everyone was happy for 20 minutes until the replacement cracked, too... I guess it's funny in retrospect... no, not really.

Congrats Leopardess!

Paradise fish are one of my favorites and some of the smartest fish I know. I taught my female to jump through a small hoop for food... but you gotta be careful.. sometimes they misjudge how far to jump and jump right out :soda: .
