Newb 10gal tank fish?

I've been gathering all the information I can before I purchase my supplies for the setup. I was looking around online at different fish and found a couple that caught my eye.

-Bala Shark
-Checkered Barb
-Neon Tetra
-Kuhli Loach

Remember, I'm a total newbie here and have no clue about these fish, I just thought they looked cool. Can I have them? How many? I would also like to get some shrimp or something.. I hear they clean well?

I would definatly scratch out the Bala Sharks as they get to be 12"+ and like to be in groups. I dont think I would go with the barbs either. The neons are pefect for a 10 gallon, and you could have kuhlis too. I would have a school of 5-6 neons and then a kuhli loach. Then you would still have room for a couple shrimp. If you want ones that will do some cleaning, go with the anamo shrimp.

yea I would also say scratch the bala shark, I think it would be neat to have a nice school of tetras like 10 H. raspboras, and a khuli loach, and some amano or glass shrimp. Im not sure if the khuli will munch on the shrimps or not though.
