How often should I change my filter cartridge & light bulb??

Filter:
I have a 10g aquarium with an aqua-tech 5-15 filter and I have had the tank for 3 months and I have not changed the filter cartridge yet. Do I need to?

Light:
I have a flourescent light in my 10g that I have had, as I said before, 3 months. I have not yet changed the bulb. Do I need to?

The filter doesn't really need changed very often; just rinse it clean in old tank water when you do a water change. If I remember right, flourescent bulbs lose much of their usefulness after 6-8 months and should be replaced IF you have live plants. Otherwise, I think you can pretty much run them until they look like they're going to burn.

When you get annoyed at little bits of something floating in the water, and rinsing the cartridge doesn't improve it for long, it is time to change the cartridge. A few months, 3 might be close to needing a change.
 
And the water coming out of the filter is running fine, by the way.
