Cloudy water...

Ok, so I setup a new 10G tank with the intention of planting it heavily... I used about 3 inches of Flourite for the substrate, have a nice, clean (boiled) chunk of driftwood in the tank. I rinsed the living hell out of the flourite before I put it in the tank, and have changed about half the water every day since setup (about 3 days ago). My water stays cloudy... I can see through it, but it looks like I spilled a glass of milk in it or something. Is patience a virtue here or am I missing something on the cloudiness? I'll do all the chem tests this afternoon and post 'em for ya, but does anyone have any initial thoughts?

Just going to have to leave it alone and let the dust settle. Took a few days for my 72 to clear up. The trick is not creating more dust by pouring water hard into the tank or stirring up the bottom with your hand.

It should clear and not be a problem. You may have to wipe the inside glass to get some residue off.

I kinda figured that was the issue, thanks Hook.

I ran a bunch of tests, here are the readings:

ph - 6.7
ammonia - .25ppm
nitrite - 0ppm
nitrate - 5ppm
General Hardness - 3degrees or about 50ppm

Anything look out of whack to you guys?

I did use some loam from an existing aquarium to try to speed up the cycle and will be getting some plants this weekend.

Thanks again.

The PH would worry me until I knew the KH numbers. At a glance it would indicate low or no KH. But there may be other causes or issues . Also where is the ammonia coming from?
Dave

the ammonia is coming from 3 feeder fish that are waiting to be put in the 55g for dinner in a coupla days.

I imagine i should acquire and use a KH test kit...any recommendations as to brand, etc?

What exactly is KH again? I slept through most of my chem classes...
