I noticed today what appeared to be bubbles coming from a sword leaf in my tank. Is this ok? Does it mean anything? Had DIY CO2 going for about a week now.

Thanks Jason

Happening when you're lights are on? I haven't experienced it yet but I am almost certain it's oxygen. Maybe it's even called pearling? Good sign from what I've read.

Most likely it is pearling, Which is O2 being released in a tank already saturated with o2, or at a rate so fast the water can't absorb it. It is usually a really good sign in a plant tank, as it indicates rapid growth and photosynthesis. I learned recently that har algea can pearl also, that may not be such a good thing though.

Thanks for the info. I can really tell a difference this past week since I added the CO2.

Hair algae pearling is no different than regular pearling:)

Yep, all you're seeing is the actual ACT of photosynthesis. Pretty cool, I think. Wish they had set up a planted tank like that to show us in elementary school/junior high.

Yeah I know, but I really didn't want the hair algea to grow that well

It was an interesting discovery. the hair algea is identicle in color to the bolbitus it was growing on, and I didn't even see it for waht it was until I cleaned the tank, and thought I'd wipe the pleco debris off of the bolbitus. I just Thought the bolbitus was pearling very well. the good news is it does pearl a little bit without the algea on it. so It's happier now.
