I have just purchased my tank and am about to start my marine aquarium.

1. Do you recomend using RO water?

2. If so what brand of RO system do you recomend?

3. Is it better to get an RO/DI system?

Thanks for your help,
Thresa

1. Yes.

2. I have a Kent Marine Hi-S RO/DI unit that I like a lot but there are cheaper units on eBay that work very well. I can't remember the name off the top of my head though.

3. An RO system will remove about 95% of impurities and an RO/DI unit will remove 98%-99%.

Also yes.
There is a whole lot we cannot control, so keeping up on what we can just seems prudent. Eliminating any problems before they enter the tank is just good practice IMO. I also have a Kent Hi-S RO/DI and am quite happy with it.

Out of curiousity, how small are these things? Small enough to fit in a tiny cramped dorm room, perchance? I have a nano so I *could* stick with bottled distilled, but I hate driving to the store... Sorry for the hijack-ness.

It is a unit maybe eighteen inches (or so) long, a bit less in height, and about six inches wide.
I do not keep mine hooked up permanently- only once a week or so when I am making water- I try to keep 40 gallons or so on hand. This water storage obviously takes up more room than the unit itself, but you can always store less, or only make as much as you need.
Lots of options...

you can buy ro water from petstores which you might wanna consider since you only have a nano

is there an ro unit thats around 100 bucks that you guys could recommend?

H&B enterprises has a dual home/reef RO/DI unit that I am thinking about ordering. Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about this unit? I appreciate your help.

RO DI Units

I just ordered this one on ebay, when I get it, I'll let you know if it any good.
looks pretty good, but I'm a noob with Marine equipment myself.

The price looked attractive for a 6 stage unit.

I should hopefully have it by the end of the week,
like dwall said, and I can confirm, the lack of one can cause some adverse things in your tank that you can't really control...I have a brown-algae problem which I suspect is the water quality. Why not nip it in the bud?

I'll keep you posted, and give you my opinion on it...
I can do tap readings before and after the filtration...
