Edit: When I originally read the post I didn't read the headers correctly and assumed the top number was ammonia so stated everything was ok, however when I re-read it (after posting) I noticed that it was Nitrate, apologies for any confusion caused if anyone read my first response before I edited it to this version)......
That doesn't seem right to me.... You have Nitrate showing after three days but no ammonia of Nitrite...
Is it a fishless cycle?
Is this a planted tank?
Was it seeded with anything from another tank?
Sorry for the questions, it's just the reading are a little unusual....
Alerin,
Wow, quick response, do you play Jeopardy?
What ammonia source are you using?
When was the last time you dosed with ammonia?
And what was the ammonia reading after that?
Can you test your tap water for Nitrate and let us have that number as well.....
That should keep you out of mischief for a couple of minutes....
aha! to cycle a tank, you need ammonia to feed the bacteria. but adding ammonia to a tank with plants will only feed the plants. if you add fish VERY slowly, like one at first, then one in two weeks, then two 2 weeks after that, then 3 more, etc, you can probably do a "silent cycle" becuase you have the plants in there.
Chico beat me to it, but you do need to be adding some source of ammonia to kick start the cycle. I am not that "up" on cycling in planted tank so will bow to his experience on the cycling method
Good luck and keep us updated..
And just out of curiosity can you still post the tap water Nitrate reading, I am guessing at 5ppm.... :idea2:
Okay i tested my tap water and it's the same as i have in the tank. 5ppm nitrates. About the silent cycle.. any particular kinds of fish that would be better than others?
