I got my 2227, installed it and now its running. I have the hoses the same length and its between 100cm and 120 cm from the top level of the water. Its cycling but the level in the filter on drops to the bottom of the top basket of media then the stopper closes off and then it starts to fill again. Should the water drop to the bottom of the lower basket before it closes off the flow. I don't know if this is a factor but instead of using the spray bar I used a fluval rim adapter with the goose neck outlet and I have some extra slack in the hoses. Any help would be great.

Another question. Does anyone know where the extra adapter goes in the filter to give you a height of 5'4". This is supposed to raise the allowable water level height. By the way, I installed the spray bar and intake that came with the filter and still have the same problem as the above post.

The water level isn't a problem. There will be plenty of oxygenation of the small amount of water left in the canister, so the filter will work fine.

I wouldn't use the adapter if you don't need it (i.e., if you're within the prescribed height). You'll just reduce the flow thru the filter.

Thanks JSchmidt. I know you have a 2229 from a previous post and figured you would have any info I needed. My water level is at 116cm from the bottom of the filter. I wasn't sure if the water level should drop to the bottom of the lower basket before filling again. The book that comes with it shows this so I thought maybe I have a problem. Do you think they work as advertised? Also how long have you had yours and have you had to changed out the media yet?

My 2229 is at work (I'm at home now) so I can't check, but what you describe sounds normal to me. The wet-dry is supposed to continually bring oxygen and oxygenated water in contact with the biomedia. That will happen in your 2227 even if the canister doesn't drain all the way.

I've had mine about 4 years now, and I like it. They're a bit of a paint to take apart to clean, but aside from that they give great biofiltration.

I didn't fill mine with Ehfisubstrat; I used a mixture of bioballs and Ehfimech. I don't like media that has to be replaced, so I don't use 'substrat. I probably am sacrificing some of the 2229's biofiltering capacity, but the trade-off by using eternal media is worth it to me. I have several filters on the 180 that the 2229 services, so I can afford it.

I don't think trying the adapter will hurt anything, if you suspect the height is a problem. I think you can remove it if you don't like it.

Jim
