View Full Version : How long can plants be kept alive in fish store transport bags?

I am flying home from college next week, and thus I will be somewhere with a fish store greater than wal-mart. So I will be able to get live plants. Problems is I have a fairly early flight out next Sunday, so if I were to get plants it would be on Saturday. Will they survive from Saturday night until late Sunday afternoon in a plastic bag with the same water?

I recently ordered some Java moss and a thick stemmed variaty of anubus over the internet. There was a postal strike in the UK and they ended up inside a cardboard box with no light for 2 weeks. I'd given up hope of them being salvagable by the time they arrived, but they were perfectly fine when I finally got them, still moist in their bags and no signs of browning or anything. I was amased.
Obviously some plants are more hardy than others, but I would've thought they'd deffinatelly be fine for just two days as long as they were properly bagged and packed.
A couple of days shouldn't matter at all. FWIW...
Packaging is cricual. Don't submerge the plants in a full bag or anything. Wrap them in wet newspaper, and stick them in a sealable bag to ensure the water doesn't soak your underwear or dry out.

exactly...they should easily be able to last 3-4 days assuming they are healthy from the start, and provided enough water. Soak them in newspaper and stuff them into ziplock bags. Dont sweat it, they are cheap...
