i live in India and the guy told me the temperature should be 30 - 32 degrees celcius ... wht temperature is ideal for them ????

2. my fishes keep on coming to the surface and either suck onbubbles and release them or just beahve as if they come to the surface and drink water

is it a normal behaviour ???

it bothers me because i read it somehwere that it is due to lack of oxygen

or if it is any other problem please tell me what to do and what the problem could be ??

3. how much food shouls i feed them ?? how do i know how much is enough ??

i'll post a picture tmrw to show how much i am feeding them

Hi and welcome to AC.

Ok first of all what size tank to you have? Goldfish can get very large and require an equally large tank. I think the generl rule is 20 gallons of water per goldfish.

Goldfish prefer colder water. 28 degrees will be too hot for them, yo will want a temperature of around 20 degrees for them IMO.

If they are coming to the surface it probally does mean that they are lacking oxygen. It could be due to they high temperatures and/or your tank might be overcrowded. Do you have good air cirulation with a filter / bubble stones? If i were you i would lower the temp and take some goldfish back ASAP if they are gasping at the surface.

You should feed them once a day or everyother day. feed them as much as they will eat in 2 minutes.

Things to keep them happy: Plenty of water changes and pristine water conditions and they will be happy as heck.

They light suddenly coming on scares me too, so it is just normal. My fish do it too.

Oh almost forgot, did you cycle your tank first? If not read the sticky on cycleing as it is a crucial step for setting up a healthy tank.

HTH :)

Size of tank?
The light thing can easily be sorted, increase the light level slowly. All GF don't like the lights turned on straight away, i turn on the room light then 5 mins later then lamp near the tank then 5 mins later the main tubes! This will stop them getting scared! :)

i am very much concerned about the temperature of the water part

the guy i bought it from said to keep it at 30 degrees celcius why would he say that ??

its very difficult for me to mailtain 20 degrees and also when i switch on the a/c in my room the temperature drops and in the morning there is moisture on the outer surface of the tank

so the guy reccomended a heater so that wud maintain the temperature to 30 degrees

i am confused and scared what do i do ?

EDIT : No , the cycle wasnt done , the guy from the petstore came and setup the tank himself and did not suggest anything like a 'cycle'

the more i read the more i get confused i dont think anything is going right for my fishes according to whtever i have read till now

i will let you know the exact size of the tank with a picture of my fishes

one more q: how often should i change water ? and how much ?

P.S. one more thing my fish dont come to the surface all the time its just a certain time of the day for some time so is it normal or is it lack of oxygen??

sounds like the guy at the pet store is a fool. Usually people at pet stores dont really know what they are doing. I dont even keep my tropical tank anywhere near 30 degrees. if you cant get it really low then 22 - 23 degrees should befine aswell.

Yes i agree fishkeeping can be very confusing. I had no idea what i was doing when i started but after a few years ive got a pretty good idea what im doing. Doing a cycle is a pretty big part of keeping a good tank. There are manyarticles on it here so search around the forums and you should find some good ones.

Depending on your tank size and such, water changes should be done 25% once a week.

If they are coming just during certain times of the day, they might just think its feeding time or something. Or maybe thats when your tank is the hottest.
