silver arrowana 100g triangular tank

Hi i have a silver arrowana in a heavily planted 100g (approx) triangular shaped tank, how long can i keep him in this tank until he outgrows it, with the tank being as wide as it is long will he be able to live in it longer than a similar sized rectangular tank as his turning ability will not be as hampered as with a rectangular setup. He is approx 6" at the moment and growing fast.


Filtration is provided by two external eheim pro filters and one internal Juwel style filtration unit. water quality is spoty on for him and he lives alone (well apart from two bristle nose catfish which i expect may dissappear soon)

I would agree with you-the wider the tank the longer you can keep him. How long depends on how fast he grows which depends on water quality and food. I saw a picture of a trout once grown to the size of a tube that had water and food pumped through it for a fisheries study, not that I am recommending that of course.
 
I've been wanting to get an Aro for a while now, but they really are tank busters. A healthy silver should easily be over a foot after a year and keep that pace for 3-4 years. One member of a forum that I visit had a 42" long Silver Aro that he sold- it had slowed down it's growth but hadn't stopped. :eek: That is getting into some seriously large tank requirement-I'm thinking a custom GARF type tank or DIY acrylic something 7-8' long and 3' (min) wide and 2' tall with a large heavy cover. This is WAY out of my price range to buy unless I build it. HTH, Steve
