On my AC500 and 300 filters, I got 2 of the same pieces for the uplift tube thinking that maybe one was just a spare. But once my brain kicked in I figured out that maybe for deeper tanks you can hook the 2 together.

So now my brain is picking up speed and I started to wonder - is it better to have the uplift tube as close to the bottom of the tank as possible or is it better near the middle of the tank?

I prefer to have it closer to the bottom--that way more waste is picked up before it can hit the bottom. Of course, I have powerheads that angle towards the pick up as well to increase the odds of wastes being captured.

I have 3 aquaclears two draw from the bottom and one midway they don't seem to make much of a difference to me but I would have them all sucking from the bottom but my yellow lab love to bury the intake tube so one is up midway. I would have to say try to get it down if you can but if not midway would be fine....just my 2 cents
