I've just come into a m/f pair of blue eye ciclids and would like to know how to best care for them. It would be neat to see them breed, but I'm more concerned with thie colouring and health in general.

What types of food and water conditions are best for them? Other than the standard water chemistry stuff, is there something habitat specific that they may prefer. They were tank bred, not wild caught.

You got them at AquaCreations, didn't you? :P

No actually. I got them in a trade for an old aquarium hood. The kid was the only one interested in this hood that I wanted to get rid of, but I would have had to settle for a fair bit less money than I wanted to sell it for. But he did have this pair of blue-eyes, and I had a tank just sitting around, so I figured what the heck, I'll trade you even and try out ciclids.

Hi,

Just browsing through and I noticed this post.
I set up a 75g early this summer and after cycling, I now have:

2 Silver Dollars, 2 Blue-eyed cichlids, an oscar and a common plec.

Much to my surprise, yesterday I noticed eggs all over the slate on one end of my tank. it is being defeded tirelessly by the blue eyes. The smaller of the two is swimming very closely on the top of the eggs, but I don't notice any more being layed, is it fertilizing them?

I wasn't sure if I had a m/f pair. how do I tell?

This is cool. Fun to watch.

Is it necessary to put in a divider to protect the fry?

rich keep a light on where the eggs are so the pleco won't eat them. Also they should be ok till they are free swiming and if you want to keep any I would take some fry out and put them in another tank. If the eggs don't turn white then they should be fertilized.
