I don't think that giving people underwear and chips would make them change their minds about who they would want to vote for. I think it's more of a publicity stunt than anything else. We all know that Moore loves the attention...

I think what he's doing is harmless.. The only difference is, some people who still dislike Moore and will vote for Bush might have a brand new pair of underwear in their closet..

But what he is doing is against the law, you can not give somebody something to go and vote even if you offer somebody a cup of coffee if they promise you they will vote, that is not legal

Even if what he is offering is a joke to him it is still bribery, no matter how small the "incentive"

If those things make it into the hands of the students he addressed it's as good as handing over money for a vote.
It could backfire BIG time.
You can not bribe people for a vote. Imagine the public outcry and the verbal beating Moore would give if someone was supporting Bush and offered the exact same things! This hit the news here in Michigan last night, and I must say I'm disgusted. Not because of who did it, but that it was done at all.

I'm neither a Bush nor Kerry supporter. Many people, myself being one of them, will be looking for the lessor of two evils while we count down to the vote.

Unless it is shown that Kerry is getting direct support in the form of contributions from Moore, I doubt this is against the law at all. So far Moore is just a private citizen.

I mean look at all those rock stars that are having a concert to vote against Bush. I am sure they are subsidising the cost of tickets.

It is also the same as the group that is lying about Kerry's war record and making commercials. Since they aren't directly supporting Bush, there is nothing to be done. Even if it helps Bush.

Hehe, I E-mailed to my mom. Because she has a book that's title is: "Moore is a BIG FAT STUPID WHITE MAN!", I thought she would like this, too.

I have nothing against it. As long as he isnt bribing people to vote for a single person. When I went to a town festival, some people asked me if I supported John Kerry, and I said yes, so they gave me a bumper sticker. In effect, they are only giving them out to John Kerry supporters. Sure the average Bush supported dosnet want one, but it really isnt that different. I think that its sad that most kids dont vote, and I think we should do whatever possible to get them to vote, as long as we dont bribe them to vote for a single person. The republicans are only picking this battle because they hate michael moore.

Republicans aren't the only ones who hate Moore :) I agree that they're most likely picking the battles that benefit them most, but I also think that it's pretty clear what he's doing is illegal.

I'm not convinced that everyone should vote. Most people who don't vote also don't know anything about any of the important issues and will vote for whoever their parents or the media tell them they should vote for. In my mind, that does more harm than good. Instead encourage non-voters to get familiar with a few important issues, and then maybe they'll want to vote.

Excellent point!!.... When I was younger, it was always understood to vote Liberal (I live in Canada). Parents, friends, family, all voted liberal, so I would too, not knowing anything about why I was voting liberal.

Now, years later, I just don't vote. I don't think that the liberals deserve my vote, and I don't know enough about the other parties to say that my vote would matter. People always say that every vote counts... They're right, but if it counts, it should mean something.
