Issue with Coral Banded Shrimp...

I bought a few things today... two False Percs, a lawmower Blenny, few turbo snails, and a coral banded... I was looking at the coral banded in the shop and I could swear that something wasn't right about him but that was the only one they had so I had no other option or nothing to compare it to. I got home and looked up a pic and realized something big... he is missing his main claws... I assume and hope that eventually they grow back. The prob is that the fish store is quite a ways away (45min-1hr) so to take him back would be a hassle really. Not worth the $10 he cost plus they may just kill him and I wouldn't really want that... My question is can he fend for himself (meaning will he be able to eat) without his main claws? The only predator I have in the tank is a Niger Trigger who thus far has been fine with shrimp and all other inverts... Any suggestions? Should I keep him isolated in like a floating beta tank or something of that size and pray for regen?

They use thier rear legs and forlegs for actual eating, just like crabs and lobsters. The main claws (called pedipalps) are used mainly for defense, or ripping things apart.

He wont have to worry about his main claws missing much longer with that Niger Trigger in the tank. Your Niger may be fine with the shrimp, etc. so far....but sooner than later, they're all going to dissapear.
