It may be in a BW tank, but these fish come from dark, acidic, soft freshwater. What specific gravity do you keep your BW tanks at?

i dont ever and havent tested for gravity but i do 30% change about once a month and about 3 tsp. prer gal a month maybe i need to be more into it but i never have had to .besides most of the lps here dont even know what brackish means . thanks for all the good ideas hopefully i can really expand my set ups

1 tbsp/gal isn't BW, only slightly salted water. True BW is 1.005 SG & over. That's probably why your knife hasn't been bothered by the salt. If you want BW, you'll need a hydrometer. Just curious, how old are you? :)

Don't worry about the age question, just curious. :) I'm still curious though.
You have a lot of fish that are going to be getting pretty large. The shovelnose catfish gets 18-24" & will eat anything that isn't big enough to avoid being on the menu. It is also an soft, acid-loving, Amazon fish. The moray is definately BW-SW. So is the puffer & the puffer will either make lunch of the eel, or be lunch to the catfish. Puffers belong in species only tanks. I would get rid of the knife & catfish, put the eel in another tank & get some more GSPs.

If the canister is already running on your established tank, it's probably ok. If not, you are going to have to cycle the tank.

There's no other way to do it, since you will be adding large fish to a new tank. Are you going to keep the clown then? It's such a cool fish!

I have 2 (5") GSPs & a (3") Ceylon puffer (hard to find) in a 45g. They look like they will be comfortable in there. 2-3 adult GSPs should be ok in your tank, if they all get along. How large is the puffer you have now?

Hooty's a good name. I like when kids name my fish. It's getting harder to think of them the more I get. My fahaka puffer is Filbert, 1 GSP-Cricket (likes them), other GSP-Bozo, Ceylon-Cammie, 3 SA puffers-Edgar, Ethyl & LB (lil Bugger), 2 red eye puffers-Pixie & Pugsly.

They are predator fish. There is a difference between a fish being aggressive and being a predator.
Puffers tend to be aggressive, nipping on fins of other fish that come in their established territory. Clown Knifes, bicher eels, and moray eels are predators, they eat what fits in their mouth, but they aren't territorial. If there is another fish in the same tank that won't fit in their mouth, they tend to leave it alone
Just wanted to clear that up.

welll isnt eating the ENTIRE fish considered fin nipping to the extreme???? :D :D :D

Yeah, i was thinking the same thing. the fish getting eaten has got to feel like the other fish is aggressive. :D I have had elephant noses, ghost knives, brown knives & baby whales. Depending on the particulatr fish, some of them seemed to be very aggressive. My baby whale insisted that no other fish be allowed in his half of a 90gal tank. All the other fish were crowded on one side.
