just bought a new 55g tank for my new house i will be moving into. I curently have a 30g bowfront with two biowheel 170's on it. with a kribensis, gourami, pleco, and a eel cat. I will use the two filters on the new 55g tank. I have been reading the forums and I see that alot of people have JD, convict, salvini, and firemouth conbinations. I don't want any breeding(although it would be cool). Would it be possible to keep these 4 fish in the tank? If so how many of each and what gender? I'm going to keep my pleco and eel cat. I would like to keep the krib but I fear he would be destroyed. Can I put some corydoras in? Anyways, what are you guys using in your tanks as a substrate in your CA setup? Are they rocky or planted tanks with driftwood ect? lots of hinding places? Do you think I have enough filtration?

Okay, firstly in a tank that size I wouldnt go for all those fish you mentioned as they are pretty aggresive, especially if they do spawn, you could put three of them in perhaps not the convict. If you get them from a young age and intorduce them together this should cut down on problems. Your Krib should okay but I wouldnt have him and Cories as mine used to attack them, plus you eel and plec will be ample bottom dwellers for that tank.
As for decor there are two schools of thought, one give them lots of rockwork so they can establish teratories and have hidaways or no plants or rocks so they cant get teratorial over different markers (although not as attractive). Personally I have a lot of stale in mine and some java fern, you will need to be carefull about your choice of plants as a lot of cichlids will either eat or uproot them. Java fern is very tough and dosent taste nice to fish, plus its a great beginner plant. I have a sand substrate whch I find more attractive and easier to clean, plus a lot of cichlids prever either very fine gravel or sand as I should imagine your eel does.
Stocking wise I would only go for one of each, or just a breeding pair, if you try to get m/f of any of these types and other fish there will be casualties if they spawn.

I don't think putting the krib or cories in there with those guys would be a smart Idea. The krib would probably end up dead, and the cories would be looked at as potential food, which can cause harm to the fish trying to eat it because of the pectoral spines. Avoid the salvini and JD. If you want, get a few convicts, get a pair if you want a supply of live food, and then maybe pick up a pair of FMs. Thats what I would do anyway.
