What kinda of catfish/bottomfeeder for my 20 gallon long turtle tank?

hello,
My turtle is a messy eater and was looking into getting a catfish/bottomfeeder to do some clean up for that tank. I went to the lfs today and bought some equipment, new fish, snails and plants for all my tanks. I currently have a Pangasius catfish in there who isnt looking so grand right now. He is on his side and barely breathing. I expect that he is on his way out withing the hour :( . The only reason i can think of to this is just that he didnt aclimate that well or was sick to begin with. I am just looking for any advice on a replacement fish for this tank (20gallon long) if he doesnt make it.
Thank you.

most turtles dont such as larger ones because they will eat them, I have a smaller species of turtle so he wont go after larger catfish just mainly smaller guppy fry that I feed him. the water temp is kept at 75 so any tropical type fish could live in there.

Have you tested the tank for ammonia? Turtles tanks tend to have really high ammonia levels, and most cats won't tolerate it.

I agree with OG, the ammonia in a turtle tank is difficult or almost impossible to keep at a low minimum or nonexistent, thus the reason for the Pangasius to be struggling.

yea i havent gotten an ammonia tester, its on my list of things to get when i go on my next lfs trip. but right now my catfish seems to be acting normal and just swimming around like it should. its really wierd i know because last night he was looking pretty grim, im gonna work on getting that tester and monitor how this catfish acts and lives for a few days. I think he was just overly stressed out last night about being introduced into a new tank. thank you.
