I have a 55 gal tank planted, with 160 wats, DIY CO2.
Some of my plants have what look like roots growing up well above the gravel. Some plants have these roots nearly half way up the plant.
Is this ok ? something I need to worry about?

It depends what type of plant it is. Some plants spread out by this method. They shoot roots out from higher up on the stems, which once they take hold will pull the stem towards the substrate. This works as a runner going out and away from the plant which serves to spread the plant out farther from its current home.

Perfectly normal for Stem Plants. Actually means the plant is happy.
They can be trimmed off if you don't like the look. Just trim them off at the stem.
