I just wanted to share my excitment with everyone. I just got in 10 baby HRP's from a fellow cichlid nut. Came over night and everyone was alive when I got them. I will post some pictures after they get used to their new home.
..."no proof that the HRP is or is not nigrofasciatus. However, they are so different that I would not interbreed the two and market the fry.
While one cannot stop convicts from breeding, one can keep the fry from a HRP x regular convict from circulating among hobbyists.
I feel they ought to described as a valid and separate species. There are too many dissimilarities in size, color, brood size, etc. to lump them into the nigrofasciatus species. "Jeff Rapps
there are very many different types of nigrofasciatus, and that HRP is just as likely a race as it is a separate species.
