Well,
Sometimes it seems like my hobby revolves around buying expensive plants and dissolving them in my aquarium. To each thier own I guess.

I've dissolved a good number of nice plants, not counting wisteria and val (which grow like crazy), and a few other hardies like cabomba and bacopa. (Even Java fern and java moss don't seem to grow too well - but at least they don't dissolve). But, just since I don't learn, I bought a red Nympaea sp a month or two ago. Being in a hurry, I didn't even plant it properly, but shoved it into my substrate to hold it untill I had a chance to do something else.... lo and behold, it has been putting out a lovely tight cluster of healthy, richly colored leaves! Well, I'm not complaining!

I think it won't stop me from bringing home another lovely bolbitus to dissolve though....

PS: 55g, sand and mud-mix fertilized substrate, 4x40w flourescent, DIY CO2, irregular dosing, Kribbs, yellowtail congo tetras, debaui cats, snails.

Keep it happy and it will produce one of the world's most beautiful flowers, IMO.

That picture does no justice to the vibrant color it had, either. Mine was also grown in 160w on a 55g. The only thing is, the leaves will become too large (if you let any float) and they will block out most of your light. It's root system will also take over your whole tank in time....beautiful plant though.

Very nice pic Leopardess !

I have some Red Tiger Lotus that grows like crazy, even with the high temps of the Discus tank at 86 degrees F..

Thanks for the comments folks.

That is a splendid looking flower Leopardess. I hadn't intended to let it grow to the surface, as I think that would crowd out the rest of my plants... tempting though.

Question: will it still propagate by runners if I do not let it come up?

Thanks,
Keegan

PS: admiring the robust, 2-fist-size cluster of purpule leaves.... you mean this single plant will send roots all over my 4ft tank, and crowd the surface? Wow.
