ooohhh.... the irony that i post a question about my guppies and then have a sort of emergency... not half an hour later. i went and did a waterchange(only about 15% bi weekly) and as per usual, scoop my 4 adults into a deep bowl, and start syphoning the crud out of the bottom. anyways... im all done and go to get my guppies off the table across the room... and there is 3! my so-big-and-looks-about-to-have-babies-tommorow momma is missing. and this is a deep bowl with about 6" from the top of the water to the top of the bowl. Boyfriend starts laughing saying that there is no way that the fish could of got out, calls me absent minded... but we keep lookin...
found her on the floor 10 feet(!!!) away. boyfriend gets garbage ready, picks her up, she starts flapping... so back into the bowl. but now she looks like she has internal bleeding. her whole clear area by her dorsal fin looks like its full of blood... but she is so far acting normal. has anyone ever had a similar experience? do you think her and her babies will survive? any precautions i should take?

Personally I'd put her back in the main tank and just keep an eye on her.

This isn't a flame so please don't take this as such... why are you removing the fish from the tank when doing a water change?

If she survives, the trauma will probably cause her to abort her babies. Your guppies will be much happier if left in their tank in the future. Good luck.

the reason i took her out of the tank is because the syphon i have sucks really strong... and they always try to get in it. after i had a bad experience with that, i really rather take the 4 of them out. and since they all hang out together, i am usually abse to scoop then out in the bowl in 1 go (no net and taking them out of the water or anything)i dont take them out usually, just when im sucking the food and stuff out of the bottem

After a little practice you'll learn how not to suck your fish up. They are going through unnecessary stress if you pull them out twice a week.

As for the guppy, i wouldn't do anything for it. Just keep an eye out for strange behaviour and such.

Take a look at your LFS, many stores sell gravel siphons with different diameters. If you have a hose and gravel bell with smaller diameters, the speed and amount of water going through will be lower, and no danger to your fish.
Guppies are pretty tough, your fish will probably be okay - just keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn't develop an infection where she's injured.

You could put a cloths pin or some such thing on the hose of your existing gravel vacuum to restrict the flow and suction. Glad to hear every thing turned out ok.
