I have an established 180 gallon reef tank (72x24x24) and am thinking of trying to keep some anthias. I had a bad experience years ago with the square-spot anthias - which I was subsequently told was a very delicate fish to keep - but have progressed in my reefing abilites since then and am thinking about trying again.

My local fish store - a very good one - tells me that the Lyretail anthias (Squampinnis) is the easiest anthias to keep, as long as it gets fed regularly.

Anyone have exerience with this fish to share? Does the regular feeding prove to be damaging to the reef tank (i.e. algae growth).

I would appreciate any insights!

I had a bicolor anthia for a while till it jumped. A shame, as it was easier to keep then I expected.
I personally hammer my semi reef pretty hard with food, but I also skim pretty hard, and have quite a bit of stuff to feed, plus I do regular water changes. It's hardt o say, but I think many reefs can take quite a bit. Many reefs seem to do well feeding 3 times a day lightly. DO have many zoanthids or ther things that are likely to mop up floating scraps of flake?

i am currently having very good luck with my lyre tail anthias... i like him better than the pink square, he has much more personality (he's more aggressive) but doesn't damage any other fish. Between the two you lose vibrance in color but the lyre tail's personality makes up for it.
in fact this fish is REALLY tough... he's survived a major bacterial/fungal infection (now he's minus one eye)... ergo he's quite indestructable. just make sure he eats at the store!
