ok dont know if anyone has had this problem or can help but heres my problem weve got a new 20 gallon tank the light on it which is flouresant worked on it for awhile with the timer and all of a sudden it doesnt you have to turn the light off and back on to get it to come on and some times you have to do that a couple of times now if the light has been on for awhile and the tube is warm you can unplug it and plug it back in all you want and itll come on. when the timer does come on itll let out a quick little flash just wondering if anyone had any ideas.

I'd replace the timer--the cheaper models tend to fail, and often are not rated for the wattage of aquarium lights. Get a good model--I prefer the indoor/outdoor ones, since the casing on these is water resistant. About $10-15 at Lowe's/Home Depot, and well worth it for the additional security and safety.

I've heard that fluorescent lights don't work well with some electronic timers; you may have more luck with one of the mechanical types.

I also remember something from a previous discussion about priming the tube with a starter or something? I don't know; that's beyond me at the moment.

EDIT: Yeah, what she said
