I will have a new 50 gallon next week that I want to use for a mbuna tank. Very excited. I read the David Boruchowitz book on the fish a few months ago, I'm curently rereading it.

I stopped into my lfs this week to ask them about the number of fish I could stock, to see if the 50 gallon would be big enough. From an employee I really trust (been working in the store for 10 years) he told me to almost over stock it, to keep a fish from ganging up on another. He told me that 20 would be a good number. Agree? I plan on making caves already, I know that'll help as well.

What would you suggest I do for stocking? I'm sure I'll have more questions soon, after I fishish rereading the book. There are just so many different kinds of these cichlids, that my head is going around in circles trying to grasp a good scheme.

Thanks :)

PS: I am not going to go crazy trying to find pure fish. I have a great fish store, that I know get fish from only the best suppliers, but I'm not too concerned with trying not to get hybrids. I honestly just want a very nice community of bright fish. I don't care to bread them or sell them. I have been told that having females increase the color of the males, but of course make for a lot of fry. What is the solution to that-- if I don't want to breed/sell fish, especially hybrids? Do I be mean and let them fend for themselves?
