Since you are in CA, you can go top the coast and find some widgeon grass, Ruppia. It can tolerate up to 4X seawater and is a nice enough looking plant. Zanichella is another, Potamogeton nodous, Hydrocotyle verticillata(look slike and is a type of pennywort).
You won't find these in the store but in lagoons near the beach/coast/upland lakes and ponds near the beaches/sand dunes. Zan and Ruppia are both grass like plants that have been found up and down the coast.
