I'm a newbie. After fishless cycling, I now maintain 7 Harelquins and 2 corys. During the ammonia-adding stage, I noticed that my giant hydro's leaves were getting transparent spots on it.

I only added ammonia for a few days. Did the water changes, watched the levels, etc.

The leaves started to turn completed transparent and then feel off. I am noticing new growth starting. My plants are planted in gravel.

Has this happened to anyone else?

My water is 7.4 PH
KH is 30

tks

Its not unusual for plants to lose their old leaves and grow new ones when added to a new enviroment. If the new leaves are transparent as well then you probably don't have enough light.

What's the size of your tank and what kind of lighting are you using?

your wattage is rather low for most plants aside from java fern& moss and anubias. You'll need to increase the amount of lighting if you want to successfully grow plants, if you can find a way to stick another 15w tube in there that would be ideal.

if your plant dropped off leaves rapidly after planting, i would suspect the change in water and temperature, which is normal. i don't suspect plants react that quickly to nutrient or lighting deficiencies.
