please can somebody help me went to fish shop today to see what was new in ended up with two cichlids shop owner knew nothing about them said they were in with a batch of other fish need to know what they are for water temp ph etc they are grey and black stripes with bright turqoise spotshave tried to post some pics dont know if it will work though any help will be appreciated

im no cichlid expert, but could possibly be a jack dempsey....... maybe

Yikes, that's a tough one with those pics. I'd GUESS jacky d as well but the colors seem off to me. Mabey a mutt?

I don't know what it is, but it looks like a CA, possibly a SA. You might want to check out http://www.cichlidae.com and see if you can identify it.

Is there any chance you could get some brighter pictures?

Yes but they have just gone into the tank and are very timid at the moment posting one on here will try for some better pics tomorrow hopefully they will have stopped hiding so much.Thanks for the tips all the same will take a look at the links and see

Im pretty sure its not a Jack Dempsy. To me it looks like an Eartheater but im not 100% sure.

what sort of size are they? are they like 1" juviniles whos colours havent come out yet or are we looking at bigger fish?

They are Geophagus brasilliensis. A large, robust eartheater from Brazil.
