Babies!!!

huzzah! my kribensis just had kids, after 4 months of fighting they decided they liked each other, and now I have about 50 little kribs (->) <-- That big. I didn't see them until today. the parents made a really hidden nest dug out underleath a rock. So yeah, that's pretty cool

judging from the size of the babies the parents have been doing a decent job of feeding them. Since my tank is heavily planted in areas, and I don't vacuum the substrate at all, and it's been set up for... I don't know exactly but about 6 or 7 months now... I imagine there are all sorts of microfauna in there they're feeding on, but I did try to target feed with some frozen daphnia that I thawed and squished all up into daphnia soup... I couldn't tell for sure if they were eating since I couldn't see the female or the babies. They were hiding in their cave.

It's funny watching the male be all macho and try to chase everyone away, esp. the cory cats I have in there. They just wander around aimlessly looking for food then BLAM a huge male krib body slams them then they keep swimming around like nothing happened I was considering getting another tank to use as a grow-out container, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna do that.

hehe, my mom said "Geez, why don't you just move the whole fish store into your bedroom, you might as well with so many tanks!".... I have one 55 gallon set up right now... I don't get her sometimes

I finally was able to catch the new family out on a feeding excursion!



not all the babies are visible though. They had then all out in the open but I didn't have the camera of course. Sorry about the low picture quality. I was in a rush to get them before they disappeared again so I set it to 1600 iso and program mode and fired away.

Cat: I did read that thread, sorry to hear about that. I plan to leave these little guys with the parents. I probably won't get many surviving to adulthood but I'm not worried too much about that since I don't have room for them anyway teehee this is so much fun
